'The New Mutants' Release Opening Scene During Comic-Con Streaming Event
Three-and-a-half minutes of previously unseen footage.
On Thursday afternoon, Comic-Con@Home — the replacement livestreaming event for San Diego Comic-Con this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic — released a new pre-recorded Zoom call featuring the cast members of the long-awaited The New Mutants. Along with a panel discussion of the upcoming movie, the stream also unveiled for the first time the opening scene to the Disney and Marvel title. The three-and-a-half minute clip can be found above, around the 24:27 mark.
Marvel or X-Men fans will know that the release date for The New Mutants has been constantly pushed back over the last two years, eventually casting doubt as to whether it would see a theatrical release at all. Having already finished filming and principal photography back in 2017, the movie was originally scheduled for an April 2018 release by 20th Century Fox. However, due to reshoots, it was pushed back to February of 2019. At that time, Disney purchased Fox, and set a new release date for the movie in April 2020, but unfortunately due to COVID-19, theatrical releases weren’t possible, and so The New Mutants was pushed back once again.
The official release date for the upcoming title is now set for August 28, though things could once again change depending on the pandemic situation.
