Listen to Tame Impala Remix 070 Shake's "Guilty Conscience"
‘Modus Vivendi,’ reimagined.
070 Shake, real name Danielle Balbuena, signed to G.O.O.D. Music back in 2016 but made a lasting impact when she put her stamp all over Kanye West‘s “Ghost Town” and “Violent Crimes.” She premiered her long-awaited debut album Modus Vivendi to near universal acclaim, melding her heartbreak and depression in melancholic melodies that defied genres.
Rarely does Tame Impala do remixes but Kevin Parker made an exception by premiering a new version of 070’s “Guilty Conscience.” The new offerings branches out from the original but through vintage synths and retro drums it still manages to stay in that same dreamy, semi-psychedelic world. The remix keeps the emotionality of the original while managing to push some optimism to the forefront through the reworked instrumentation.
Kevin Parker has been keeping busy during the coronavirus quarantines, performing as a multi-instrumental technicolor trio for “Is It True” on Colbert. He even filmed a music video in isolation for The Streets‘ “Call My Phone Thinking I’m Doing Nothing Better.” His “Guilty Conscience” Remix also calls to mind his reworked The Slow Rush In An Imaginary Place release meant to transport listeners isolated at home to a physical concert space.
