Crash Bandicoot will make his mobile runner debut on Apple iOS and Android with Crash Bandicoot: On the Run!, confirming initial rumors from earlier this year. The free-to-play title comes from Activision and Candy Crush developer King. The title sees series antagonist Dr. Neo Cortext returning to take over the multiverse, leading Crash and his friends to run through multiple stages inspired by the franchise in order to stop him.

Crash Bandicoot: On The Run! transforms the runner experience with classic Crash gameplay while adding depth and progression with social, crafting, and base building features,” according to a press release. “The brand new adventure was created by a team of Crash Bandicoot fans who drew inspiration from the franchise’s rich history and obtained feedback from passionate fan communities. Players will save the world from Dr. Neo Cortex and enjoy their favorite characters, beloved bosses, trademark moves, and nostalgic locations on the go.”

According to Stephen Jarrett, VP of game design at King, and creative lead on Crash Bandicoot: On the Run, the studio was previously working on a runner title before getting tapped for a Crash Bandicoot opportunity. When they got it, they transformed their runner game to aesthetically match Crash Bandicoot. According to Kotaku, “his entire team are huge fans of the once Sony mascot, and hinted at some really deep cuts when it comes to references to earlier games in the series.”

Pre-register for Crash Bandicoot: On the Run on its official website, which comes with a Blue Hyena skin for Crash when the game finally arrives.

In other gaming news, Halo 3 is finally launching as a PC game next week.
