Balenciaga Serves Its Anatomical Tyrex Sneaker in Flashy Silver Hues
The divisive sneaker is inspired by the body’s web of muscles.

Balenciaga has treated its retro-futuristic Tyrex sneaker to an all-silver makeover. The Demna Gvasalia-designed pair released as part of the Spanish house’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection, and once again challenged footwear industry norms with its divisive design as many of Balenciaga’s sneakers have done in the past.
The Tyrex is made from nylon, mesh, faux leather, and rubber, which come together to create a busy, overlapping paneled construction. However, the asymmetrical sneaker isn’t just for show — it’s inspired by the human anatomy and our natural web of muscles underneath the skin, and as a result, the pair is incredibly ergonomic and comfortable.
Balenciaga’s Tyrex has been given a full silver overhaul. The main body is finished in a matte effect, but there are shiny components such as the rear heel tab that sports Balenciaga branding in black block capitals. “TYREX” branding is stamped onto the square toe at the front of the shoe, while the rear honeycomb heel unit is finished with numerical sizing in black.
