'Dr. Mario World' Introduces Baby Wario as a Playable Doctor
The character’s second appearance since ‘Yoshi’s Island DS.’
Nintendo‘s mobile spin-off game Dr. Mario World will be debuting Baby Wario as a new playable character to the puzzle series. The niche character originally appeared in Yoshi’s Island DS 14 years ago, but now he has a medical degree. Although the original incarnation of the character sported diapers, this time he has a lab coat and a tie with the letter “W.” However, he still has the same giant magnet that he used in the Nintendo DS game.
Although titles like Mario Kart Tour are popular in the mobile space, Dr. Mario World is one of Nintendo’s least profitable mobile games. The title recently introduced characters like Daisy, Dr. Dolphin, Dry Bones Bowser, a Koopa, and several Goombas in a lab coat as playable doctors. However, none of those characters garnered the same reaction as Dr. Baby Wario.
The adult version of Wario is a portmanteau of Mario and has served as his arch-rival since his first appearance in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. According to official Nintendo lore, Wario is a childhood rival to Mario and Luigi who became jealous of their success.
Dr. Baby Wario will arrive in Dr. Mario World on June 26 at 3 am PT and will be available to use as a playable character. Download the title now for Apple iOS and Android.
In other gaming news, Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ next update will allow players to swim.
