As part of i-D‘s “The Faith in Chaos” Summer 2020 issue, Kanye West and Pharrell sat down for a wide-ranging conversation — during which West confirmed a release date for his highly-anticipated YEEZY Foam Runner. First teased in early 2019 by Kanye’s daughter North West and sent down the runway during February 2020’s London Fashion Week, the Foam Runner’s already-extensive saga now enters a new chapter by way of West’s announcement.

In between spinning anecdotes about Michael Jackson and complimenting Pharrell on his fashion influence, West let slip details on the Foam Runner’s process, saying “[We’re] sitting here in Wyoming figuring out how to do manufacturing during [the COVID-19 coronavirus]. The Foam Runners we’re coming out with in June are our first American manufactured items and we gotta figure out how to do localized manufacturing.”

With its Crocs-like perforated upper and unusual shape, the Foam Runner may be one of the most divisive adidas YEEZY products to date. West previously announced that it was constructed of algae, and the colorways revealed thus far are earthy and tonal, in line with other drops like the adidas YEEZY Slides.

Although West did not announce a specific day of arrival or price point, this quip indicates that the Foam Runner is set to hit shelves before the end of the month. Of course this is subject to change, so stay tuned for more info as it’s made available.

Moving from sandals and clogs to running sneakers, Japan’s HIROCOLEDGE recently teamed with adidas for an UltraBOOST SUMMER.RDY “Tokyo.”
