Jay Electronica Joins Paul Epworth for Cosmic Single "Love Galaxy"
From off the U.K. producer’s upcoming debut solo album ‘Voyager.’
English record producer and songwriter Paul Epworth has dropped a new single, titled “Love Galaxy,” featuring Jay Electronica, Lil Silva and Glass Animals’ Dave Bayley. Taken from off his upcoming debut solo album Voyager, the track draws inspiration from ’70s space concept albums and explores cosmological references.
“I was looking for something in the album that felt super familiar, a nostalgic record that feels like coming home,” Epworth told NME. “I knew I wanted it to sound like I’d sampled an early Jan Hammer record, something like Brian Bennett or Steve Miller Band’s cosmic funk, but chopped and screwed through a Dr Dre filter when he’s referenced records from a similar era.”
Produced by animator and creator Kidmograph, the accompanying visuals explore Epworth’s sci-fi psyche. The music video includes humans hooked up to futuristic pods, surreal landscapes from outer space and holograms of individuals in true sci-fi fashion. “Come with us if you want/Ride a rocket ship until your body gives up,” Epworth, backed by Bayley, sings in the chorus. “Space and time is all we’ve got/We’re gonna take it steady if you’re ready or not.” “She said the beam from the skylight’s so enticing,” Jay raps. “She reaching for the sky like Peabo Bryson.”
