Medhane Announces New 'Cold Water' LP With "I'm Deadass" Music Video
The Brooklyn rapper’s next project drops May 26.
Brooklyn rapper Medhane has announced his new full-length project Cold Water, set to release May 26 alongside a new music video titled “I’m Deadass” directed by Elijah Maura.
Cold Water will follow Medhane’s February EP Full Circle which saw him introduce his producing alter-ego AFB through eight new tracks. That effort was a follow-up to his full-length Own Pace released late last year. Cold Water taps frequent collaborators like Navy Blue and Maxo while Medhane will also enlist ohbliv, Chuck Strangers, Playa Haze and Alexander Spit for additional production.
“Listening to Gil-Scott, for real. I really grew up around that type of sh*it. It’s in me, ‘Knowledge of Self’ and all that,” Medhane said of his influences in a recent HYPEBEAST Conversations With video interview. “I look to the great people before me who were making these emotive statements, describing life in a way that no-one else could. Nikki Giovanni, Maya Angelou, Amiri Baraka… Having that in your subconscious, when the beat play you immediately go back to that lunchbox that your parents gave you with all the f*ckin’ nutrients inside it and you’re just like, ‘which one am I gonna think about today.’”
“I’m Deadass” was produced by ibliss and utilizes some archival footage to track Medhane through his native New York City. Watch his latest visual above. In more music news, Tyler, The Creator delivered his “BOYFRIEND” single via YouTube from his GRAMMY Award-winning project IGOR for the first time as the track was originally only available on his physical releases.
