Watch Leon Bridges and John Mayer's iPhone-Shot "Inside Friend" Video
The timely track was started during an impromptu jam session last year.
Leon Bridges and John Mayer released the lighthearted single “Inside Friend” last month, presenting a timely take on what life is like for many around the world now. Now the singers have shared the official music video for the track, which, in respect of social distancing rules, was completely shot on Mayer’s and Bridges’ respective iPhones.
The visual, which Bridges describes as “just a little something to watch inside,” shows the duo in super-casual settings around the house as they croon about the many relaxing things they can do with their partner. Whether it be grilling in the backyard, eating noodles or simply chilling on the couch, both fellas are up for the type of dating that involves no-frills activities (but just might come with a fiery guitar solo from Mayer should he be so inspired). Watch the video above now to see it all in action or stream the single below.
Despite the song’s timely theme considering the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the record has actually been in the works since last year when Bridges and Mayer had an impromptu jam session. “The concept for ‘Inside Friend’ came about from Mayer and I joking around in the studio about what an ideal date for an introvert or homebody like myself would be. I tour most of the year, so I’d rather invite a gal over to lounge comfortably in the crib as opposed to go out somewhere crowded,” explained Bridges.
“‘Inside Friend’ stayed on the back burner for a while because it didn’t fit within the context of my third project, but the current state we’re in globally compelled us to dig this back up and finish it,” he said. “I hope people find it soothing and uplifting while we hole up indoors and get through this.”
While the song is a one-off and not expected to be on any upcoming albums from Bridges, fans can catch up on his latest EP Texas Sun in collaboration with Khruangbin, which dropped in February.
