After a hiatus from social media, KYLE has resurfaced to drop off a new single titled “What It Is.” The rapper has also shared the official music video for the track, tapping Jakob Owens to direct the three-minute flick.
KYLE released the song in tandem with his birthday this Monday, taking to Instagram to explain that his album is still on the way regardless of COVID-19 (and debuting a fresh hair cut along the way). “I came to Earth to make feel-good music to make you happy when times are tough,” the artist said in a caption. “Well times are pretty tough and people need some sunshine.”
“What It Is” is an impassioned record tinged with some of KYLE’s familiar lyrical themes, this time centered around a love interest that has chosen another partner. “Hopefully it can help you build an endless world as big as the great outdoors in your mind,” he said of the track. “You’re not alone. I’m with you.”
When writing previously of his decision to leave social media in order to finish his next album, KYLE stated, “This journey is going to be one into my past. I want to reconnect with the K.i.D in me. When I was the beautiful loser you fell in love with so many years ago.” He added, “So I’m bringing it back to where it all began. There’s a piece of me I left there, that I need to go find.”
