This Is the Meaning of Grimes and Elon Musk’s Baby’s Name (UPDATE)
Grimes deciphers the hidden messages found in X Æ A-12.
UPDATE (May 6, 2020): Grimes has taken to Twitter to explain the meaning behind her and Elon Musk‘s new baby’s name. While rumors still abound about how to pronounce it, the mystery surrounding X Æ A-12 has reached some clarity thanks to the artist’s recent tweet.
X refers to “the unknown variable” while Æ is her “elven spelling of Ai (love and or artificial intelligence).” A-12 is a reference to the Lockheed A-12 aircraft which Elon and Grimes bonded over because it was “the precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft).” Grimes continued to reveal that she admired the military reconnaissance plane because it has “no weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent.” Lastly, the A has a double-meaning for “Archangel,” her favorite metal song. Which song she’s referring to remains a bit vague for the time being. ORIGINAL STORY (May 5, 2020): SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and his girlfriend Grimes have announced the birth of their baby, reportedly naming the child X Æ A-12 Musk.
Musk and Grimes’ baby will not be assigned a gender from birth, as the singer previously said she would let their child decide their own gender, stating “I don’t want to gender them in case that’s not how they feel in their life.” Musk has confirmed that the mother and baby are “all good,” and has taken to Twitter to show his newborn.
X Æ A-12 Musk is the couple’s first child together. Musk has five children from a previous marriage, too. Grimes previously stated in an interview with Apple Music that she would like her child to periodically live with her grandfather in the woods, describing him as “very intense… Lots of physical labor in the cold and whatnot.”
