Omar Apollo Works Through Heartbreak on Latest Single "Imagine U"
Co-produced by Kenny Beats.
Omar Apollo returns with his new song, “Imagine U”, his third official collaboration with producer Kenny Beats following his connection with Dominic Fike on “Hit Me Up” and his “Frío” single, sung entirely in Spanish.
“Imagine U” is one of Omar’s more pop-leaning offerings in recent memory with some vintage synths and an ongoing guitar riff that’s sure to be embedded in the back of your mind for the next few days. “Sometimes you touch me on my face, I wish you could’ve never left me/ You’re breaking up my phone on 2%, but you’re not too far from me,” Apollo opens up the song, setting the tone for the eventual heartbreak and nostalgia for love lost to come in later verses.
“I’m all about the feeling when it comes to music,” Apollo said of the track’s inspiration. “The lyrics and melody came to me so naturally and I feel like free thinking is what’s missing in a lot of music nowadays. There’s a guitar part I played that’s pitched up as soon as the song starts that I love and when I first made the song that part was all I had. I was obsessed with it — I kept playing it on loop cause it felt so good to me. I was listening to a lot of daft punk at the time so I was really inspired by those themes.”
