Purity Ring Share Two New Tracks With "peacefall" & "pink lightning"
From the duo’s first new album in five years.
Canadian electronic-pop duo Purity Ring are releasing their first new album in five years with WOMB, out April 3 via 4AD. The offering follows 2015’s Another Eternity and was announced through the recently released “stardew” single and a mysterious new website that, given enough digging around and clicking, would lead you to new music.
Megan James and Corin Roddick first burst onto the scene back in 2012 with their landmark debut Shrines. Since then, they’ve been careful to space out their work with three year and now five year gaps in between releases. “peacefall” comes equipped with a lyric video comprised of a sewing machine stitching Megan’s lyrics into fabric. The track is a triumphant, emotional offering with Corin Roddick’s signature production cues on full display. Echoing synths and electronic touches throughout lay the perfect foundation as Megan sings, “You were playing nervous while you were playing with the drapes/ Mention somebody else and somebody else trying to escape/ They were like your family but not like I am me/ Spoken like a prophet in all your misery.”
“pink lightning” picks up the pace, complete with a vintage Windows XP-inspired desktop background visual of forests and constellations. The track features backing vocals from lead singer of Copenhagen, Denmark band Mew, Jonas Bjerre.
