New Balance Drops Darkened 850 With "Team Red" Highlights
Adding sleekness to a chunky mold.
After dropping its “Inspire the Dream” iteration of 850s with Kawhi Leonard, New Balance has returned with a fresh take on the silhouette. The American footwear giant has opted for a clean “Black/Team Red” colorway, adding a touch of sleekness to the chunky mold.
Starting at the top of the shoe is “850” and “New Balance” branding over a smooth black panel, followed by thick gray rope laces that cover the forefoot. Near the upper regions of the shoe, breathable mesh fabrics cover the sidewalls and toebox. For textural contrast, lush suede overlays are placed from the heel all the way to the forefoot, finished off by black full-length leather mudguards for a triple-tiered design where grayscales grow darker towards the lower areas of the shoe. To offset the dark color scheme, red highlights show up near the heel counter, with an embroidered “NB” logo, as well as the upper body, detailed with two ripstop eyelet strips. All of these details sit above a blacked-out midsole, equipped with ABZORB cushioning technology and a ROLLBAR TPU medial insert for added comfort and responsiveness.
The New Balance 850 “Black/Team Red” is currently available on New Balance’s website for $99 USD
