Tokyo retailer ESTNATION is no stranger to collaborations, teaming up with the likes of Larry Clark back in 2017 and Paradise Youth Club, more recently. Returning for yet another collaborative project, ESTNATION has tapped artist Kosuke Kawamura, a frequent AKIRA collaborator, for a bold graphic-heavy assemblage of long-sleeves, sweaters and hoodies.

Set atop a range of red, black and white cotton bases, each piece has been emblazoned with vivid artwork characterized by thin vertical cuts that mirror the effects of a paper shredder. One noteworthy piece is a red hoodie with a detailed portrait at the back. The image resembles that of an old Renaissance painting, overlayed with subtle motifs of a flame. At the front of the piece, the artist’s initials “K.K.” are placed next to “2020” and “XXKK” at the upper left chest.

Another highlight is a black hoodie with a monochromatic print at the back. While spliced like the aforementioned graphic, this artwork has a slightly melted effect along the edges — shadowed silhouettes rendered in soft grayscale for contrasting abstract shapes. Below it lies “K.K. 2020 MMXX” lettering. Other pieces like the white long-sleeves, as well as the black and white crewneck sweaters, round up the concise assemblage.

The Kosuke Kawamura x ESTNATION capsule is currently available at ESTNATION’s website, ranging from $88 – $231 USD.

Most recently, Raf Simons has unveiled new Appliqué Patch Hoodies with bold graphics and DIY detailing.
