Jordan Brand has crafted a high-end Air Jordan 1 PE for the Oklahoma Sooners football team. Following closely in the footsteps of UNC Tar Heels and Florida Gators-themed AJ1 PEs, these Sooner-centric shoes use the same premium faux stingray, croc and cracked leathers as their collegiate counterparts.
Upon first glance, the colorblocking brings to mind images of 2018’s popular Air Jordan 1 “Bred Toe,” and for good reason: it’s almost exactly identical, save for the red Swooshes. Quarter panels are presented in white cracked leather, while toeboxes, heels and collar flaps take on red stingray. Mudguards, throats and collars utilize murky black croc leather.
Waxed laces weave across the nylon tongue to add an extra dash of elegance, and a black ball-and-wings logo on the collar provides a recognizable touch of branded flair. The right shoe’s tongue forgoes a normal Nike Air hit in favor of Oklahoma’s recognizable OU graphic, which is also present on both insoles. White midsoles and red outsoles complete the look.
Oklahoma has become somewhat of a proving ground for Jordan and Nike in recent years. It’s the alma mater of longtime Jordan athlete Blake Griffin and rising quarterback Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals, the #1 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Therefore, you can expect to see more PEs for Boomer Sooner over the course of the year.
As this Oklahoma University Air Jordan 1 is indeed a player edition style, it will not see a retail release. However, you can see them both alone and next to a corresponding red suede OU Air Jordan 4 PE above.
