Dej Loaf deals with contradictions in the latest music video for her single “Bubbly.” The Detroit, Michigan rapper sets up a strip club in a simple suburban home’s living room with champagne bottles littered throughout, rapping in a forrest green fur coat while shots of a pregnant woman intercut one second, then focusing on an intimate close up of a single mother the next. “Bubbly” is the first single off the rapper’s upcoming Sell Sole II, a follow-up to her breakout 2014 mixtape and comes with the announcement that she continues to pave her own lane independently and outside of the major label structure.

“[I'm] so happy to be back releasing my music and vision independently! So much goes on behind the scenes and I rarely speak on it because I’m still in it to win it! I didn’t want to release this record/album without getting in tune with my true fans again! This record is special to me. Consider this as a chapter from my book,” Dej Loaf said in a recent Instagram post announcing the video’s release.

“Bubbly” also features the perfect amount of CGI bubbles as different anonymous men try to weigh her down as she hovers above ground. Surrealism plays a part here too, with lone arms pouring out champagne, iridescent bubbles multiplying in the screen. “She gon’ get to twistin’ on the pole with her legs/ Please don’t get it twisted, mmm this b*tch about her bread/ Try to give her Hennessy, she want a perc instead/ These b*tches love my energy, they want me in their bed/ I’m the biggest Joker, I need a b*tch like Harley Quinn/ Ain’t fishin’ for no bitches, I’m like Nemo with one fin,” Dej raps with the utmost ease, her melodic flow accented by subtle autotune.
