Jordan Peele Introduces 'Candyman' to a New Generation With First Trailer
A “spiritual sequel” to the classic 1992 supernatural horror film.
Continuing to carve his place in the horror film genre, Jordan Peele and director Nia DaCosta have released the first trailer for their reboot of Candyman,
Co-written and produced by Peele, the upcoming film from Monkeypaw Productions is a “spiritual sequel” to the classic 1992 supernatural horror film based on the short story The Forbidden by Clive Barker. The cult-favorite is lauded for how it radically uses the horror genre to discuss issues of race and history.
The reboot returns to Cabrini-Green, the original old housing project featured in the original film. Despite being gentrified, the urban legend that Candyman lingers to haunt and group unsuspecting victims. Directed by Nia DaCosta, the film stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Colman Domingo and Tony Todd who returns to his role as the title character.
