Aminé Returns With New Soulful '90s-Inspired Track "Shimmy"
Produced by Boi 1da.
Following Streetsnaps with Aminé back in August, the Portland rapper has returned with a brand new track that pays homage to the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard, in case the reference in the song’s title “Shimmy” is missed.
Announced in the beginning of the song, “Shimmy” is Aminé’s lead single after a year-and-a-half-long hiatus since releasing his debut LP ONEPOINTFIVE. produced by Boi 1da, the song is doused in a scratchy ’90s-inspired beat, laced with sampled bits from O.D.B., soulful vocal harmonies, trickling sitar notes and crisp drum loops reminiscent of the raw and bare sounds that dominated much of hip-hop in the Golden Age. Catchy lyrics like “Shimmy shimmy ya, y’all n*ggas get no applause” and “I did the clean version so money could be involved” are delivered with a slightly auto-tuned inflection, while one of O.D.B.’s infamous hooks, from “Shimmy Shimmy Ya,” appears towards the end of the track. The song is also accompanied by a self-directed music video, offering bold visuals for the throwback feel of the song.
