Rising Atlanta Rapper Kenny Mason's "Metal Wings" Is a Raging Proclamation of What's to Come
Following his breakout “Hit” and last year’s “Angelic Hoodrat.”
Kenny Mason‘s “Hit” was a breakthrough moment for the rising Atlanta rapper that saw him balance introspection with enough head-nodding catchiness to garner millions of replays throughout the months that followed. Now he’s back with his first offering of 2020 in “Metal Wings.”
The song is a guitar-heavy announcement that he’s not holding anything back this year and again displays his ear for melody on the chorus and ability for high-energy bars. It’s a departure from the murky and warped “Angelic Hoodrat” showcasing the 24-year-old’s range in the best way possible.
“I think God, is a dog, a b*tch/ Tongue hangin’ out, cause your squad, a lit/ When my grandma died, she took my heart/ It split/ Now I am the light, in the dark, it’s lit/ I wan’t everything/ Every motherf*cking thing/ I was seventeen/ Auntie put me on the street/ And I met a queen, in the belly of the beast/ And I barely had a thing/ In my belly I ain’t eat,” he rages in the opening lines. It’s an introduction that catches you off guard. The nearly three minute song even ends with a heavy guitar solo as his auto-tuned crooning fades into the background.
