Former American boxer Oscar De La Hoya has fuelled rumors that he’s set to return to the ring after 12 years, following a recent interview with The Guardian.

The 47-year-old — who founded Golden Boy Promotions in 2002 — admitted he had been inspired by Mike Tyson’s return to the ring against Roy Jones Jr. last month. “What Mike Tyson did was very inspirational,” he told The Guardian. “He looked great. He looked like the old Mike Tyson, against a fighter who at one point was the best on the planet.”

Rumors of the American facing the likes of Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez or Gennady Golovkin have been touted, while a rematch against Floyd Mayweather has also been mentioned. De La Hoya lost to the still-undefeated Mayweather back in 2007 and has teased at a rematch ever since. Whoever the American faces though, he’s sure he’ll be ready.

“For the last maybe six, seven months I’ve been feeling great, my body fat is very low,” he continues. “I’m maybe 10 pounds [from] where I want to be. I just want to make sure that when I start sparring I don’t get injured.”

When asked whether he was likely to return to the ring anytime soon, the former boxer replied: “It is a serious proposition. The main reason is because I love it and I miss it”.

In other sports news, the UFC has recently shared its list of nominees for its Knockout of the Year award.
