Zuffa Boxing and WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia successfully retained his title on Saturday night after defeating challenger Conor Benn via second-round TKO at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The victory marks Garcia’s first defense since capturing the 147-pound belt in February.
Entering the bout as a favorite, Garcia secured his fastest knockout in six years after dropping Benn with a right hand in the second round. Although Benn returned to his feet, referee Thomas Taylor halted the contest as Garcia unleashed a continuous combination. The victory pushes Garcia’s record to 26-2 with 21 KOs in his third appearance within the welterweight division.
The loss marks the second defeat in four fights for Benn (25-2), who returned to the 147-pound limit for the first time since April 2022 following a catchweight bout against Regis Prograis. Promoted by Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing in partnership with Golden Boy Promotions, the event highlighted Garcia’s expanding crossover visibility and main-event draw.
Following his defense against Benn, Garcia intends to target a potential title unification matchup against WBA champion Teofimo Lopez.
