As we power through another week, HYPEBEAST has rounded up a carefully curated list of Music Projects You Missed This Week.
This selection includes collaborations from D Double E and Skepta and Black Thought and Ledisi, along with singles from Drakeo The Ruler, Four Tet, Fivio Foreign and reggie. Statik Selektah and Shoreline Mafia also join this week’s list with their full-length releases The Balancing Act and Mafia Bidness (Deluxe).
Black Thought x Ledisi - ”American Heartbreak”
Black Thought teamed up with Anibade founder Ledisi for “American Heartbreak,” which was used in the closing credits of HBO’s Between The World and Me. In line with the plot of the Ta-Nehisi Coates book the TV special was adapted from, The Roots MC and Ledisi both reflect on the daily violence against the Black community while sharing a message to keep strong and united. “I won’t be another American heartbreak,” they say in the chorus.
D Double E x Skepta – “DON”
D Double E and Skepta are reunited once again for the new track, “DON.” The single’s accompanying visual, directed by Nicky “Slimting” Walker and Femi Oyeniran, follows the events of a heist the paired pull, including a high-speed chase through a stunning rural area and the celebration following the success of the mission.
Drakeo The Ruler – “Mardi Gras”
Drakeo The Ruler continues to make up for lost time with the release of “Mardi Gras,” dropping the new single less than a month after “Fights Don’t Matter.” The new track hears the braggadocious side of the rapper as he preps for the release of his upcoming album We Know The Truth.
Statik Selektah - The Balancing Act
Renowned DJ and producer Statik Selektah dropped off his ninth solo studio album The Balancing Act with an impressive selection of guests. Joining the Massachusetts-born producer are Nas, 2 Chainz, Jack Harlow, Killer Mike, Benny The Butcher, Conway The Machine, Dave East, Method Man, Black Thought, Joey Bada$$, Bun B, Paul Wall, Havoc, Sean Price, Gary Clark Jr., Styles P, Jadakiss and 1982 groupmate Termanology.
Fivio Foreign – “Trust”
Fivio Foreign gave fans a taste of his upcoming debut studio album, B.I.B.L.E., with the brand new single, “Trust.” The new track also arrives with a music video that honors the late King Von, who was shot and killed in Atlanta in early November 2020.
Four Tet - ”Negative Returns (Remix)”
Four Tet has offered a remix of Krust’s “Negative Returns,” a track that appears on the Bristol drum’n'bass DJ/producer’s newest album The Edge of Everything. “This is the first D&B track I’ve ever made!” Four Tet excitingly said in a statement. “It felt good to do something out of my comfort zone.”
Shorelina Mafia - Mafia Bidness (Deluxe)
Shoreline Mafia has dropped off eight new tracks for the deluxe edition of their debut album, Mafia Bidness. The new cuts will be the last ones the group will release for the foreseeable future as Ohgeesy, Rob Vicious, Master Kato and Fenix Flexin (who departed the group following the album’s release in July 2020) continue to plot out their solo careers.
reggie – “I Don’t Wanna Feel No More”
Houston-born artist reggie has dropped off his solemn new cut “I Don’t Wanna Feel No More,” landing with a stunning visual co-directed by the musician himself. He touches on being overwhelmed with emotion — regardless of what kind — and wanting to shut down because of it. reggie also explores the different ways people deal with such emotions, even if others look down upon their methods.
