Disney+ Adds Chadwick Boseman Tribute to 'Black Panther' Opening Credits
The late actor would have turned 44 years old this November 2020.
Disney+ and Marvel are honoring the late Chadwick Boseman on what would have been his 44th birthday with a new Black Panther tribute.
The homage can be found during the film’s opening credits on Disney+, and arrives in the form of an updated Marvel Studios logo. While the original intro features other Marvel characters such as Iron Man, The Hulk, Ant-Man and Black Widow, this new tribute solely focuses on Boseman as King T’Challa and highlights only the script of Black Panther, also ending with a purple hue rather than Marvel’s company color of red.
Bob Iger, executive chairman of Disney, first teased the tribute on social media. “To all fans of #BlackPanther: watch the film on #DisneyPlus late tonight, for a special tribute to someone that was and will always be near and dear to our hearts,” he wrote.
Previous reports state that Black Panther 2 will begin filming in Atlanta in July 2021, and will see the return of Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett. The studio’s plan of moving forward with the franchise has not been revealed as of writing, however Marvel Studios exec Victoria Alonso confirmed that they will not be using CG to digitally recreate Boseman. “There’s only one Chadwick, and he’s no longer with us,” she said in an interview. “Sadly, our king has died in real life, not only in fiction, and we’re taking a little time to see how we continue the story and how to honor this chapter of what has unexpectedly happened to us, so painful and terrible to be honest.”
