Real Bad Man Releases New 'On High Alert, Volume 3' Compilation
The Los Angeles imprint taps Boldy James, Pink Siifu, Meyhem Lauren and Kool G Rap for their third EP of 2020.
Los Angeles clothing imprint Real Bad Man has been steadily releasing their On High Alert EP series throughout the year, tapping some of the most revered hip-hop veterans of recent memory and pairing them with rising rappers for truly unique and cohesive offerings. After dropping On High Alert, Volume 1 back in February and On High Alert, Volume 2 back in May, the third installment is finally available to stream today.
On High Alert, Volume 3 spans six songs and just under 20 minutes, enlisting past collaborators like Boldy James (whose fantastic Manger on McNichols just hit streaming services today after being a Bandcamp exclusive for the past handful of months) and Pink Siifu (whose upcoming collaborative album with Fly Anakin, Fly Siifu’s drops November 13.) Meyhem Lauren, Kool Kieth, Kool G Rap and Flee Lord also contribute.
The project is short but undeniably sweet with instrumentals that flawlessly meld old school boom-bap sensibilities with hypnotic and semi-psychedelic touches. When paired with the other two installments, Real Bad Man creates an insular sonic world that taps into hip-hop history and experimentation. All three are well worth the hour total of listening time.
