Japan's Goo Ranking Rates the Most Popular Anime in the Last 20 Years
Ranking the most popular shows from 2000-2020

Japan’s biggest ranking site Goo Ranking has published its list for the most popular anime that has debuted in the last 20 years. Among these titles, 29 shows have been mentioned, with some tied due to garnering the same number of votes from its consensus. The questionnaire has received responses from July 31 to August 14 this year and only includes shows that premiered from 2000 to 2020.
Anime like Inuyasha, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, Hajime no Ippo, and Digimon Adventure 2 make appearances on the list. Boogiepop Phantom came in first place and serves as a sequel to its 1998 light novel counterpart. According to Goo Ranking, “the story is characterized by its unique dark colors and heavy atmosphere” and serves as a companion piece to “the live-action movie released in the same year.”
