doublet's SS21 Rakuten Fashion Week Runway Is a Halloween-Ready Freakshow
Emphasizing obscure cuts, deconstruction and playful graphics.

doublet‘s Spring/Summer 2021 runway from Rakuten Fashion Week — formerly called Tokyo Fashion Week — was a Halloween-themed freakshow, displaying a striking range of masterfully cut garments that aimed to playfully get under one’s skin. The collection was first seen back in July in the label’s official SS21 lookbook.
Models with heavy makeup — clad with open sores, horns, gashes, discolored veins and glowing eyes — wore an eclectic range of silhouettes that reflected the collection’s spooky theme. Pieces like oversized checkered blazers, billowing leather jackets, aprons, bright red cardigans, cut-up shorts, frayed denim jackets and quilted trousers, were but a few noteworthy garments to take up the stage. One highlight was a dark purple faux-mink coat. Constructed with dropped shoulders and elongated sleeves, the piece comes with nuanced details like raised collars, tonal buttons and deep waist pockets to emphasize its refined build. Other pieces like pin-striped button-ups with tiny heart-shaped aluminum balloons, gold-tinted trench coats, pajamas, boilers suits and patent leather trousers round off the expansive collection.
