A-COLD-WALL*’s Samuel Ross Joins Hublot
The designer has joined the Swiss label as an official ambassador.

After revisiting its Classic Fusion line for its 40th anniversary, Hublot has announced that Samuel Ross — founder and designer of label A-COLD-WALL* — has joined the Swiss watch brand as an official ambassador.
Ross — who was the winner of the 2019 Hublot design prize — has also produced his first creation for Hublot to mark the announcement. Designed to celebrate the watch brand’s 40th anniversary, he’s taken an array of materials to craft an exhibition concept to mark Hublot’s 40th anniversary, including furniture & flagship store interiors.
Combining igneous rock (granite) as a reference to the origins of Fusion, with metal crafted by man (steel), Samuel’s sculpture explores and juxtaposes these materials in order to create a balance between the organic – that which can only be created over time – and the industrial, which is forged through innovation.
Ross also chose to create an inclined polygon that makes it seem as if our view of the object is deformed. In a play on transparency, there are holes in the aluminium structure and the finishes applied combine the traditional expertise of a mirror polish with technological mastery expressed by computer numerical control CNC milling. Designed to be handled, the sculpture has two mobile aluminium rods that can be playfully moved into one of the CNC indents created in the metal.
The Hublot 40th Anniversary exhibition by Samuel Ross is currently on show at the Hublot manufacture centre in Switzerland, and will be open to the public from November 10.
