The cult classic from 2001’s “Japan Addition” pack is back — with a few small changes.
As part of its Holiday 2020 retro collection, Jordan Brand has readied the first ever retro release of the Air Jordan 1 CO.JP “Midnight Navy.” Debuting as part of Nike and Jordan Brand’s CO.JP program — short for “Concept Japan,” a slate of Japan-exclusive styles — in 2001, the “Midnight Navy” was limited to a scant 3,000 pairs and served as 1/3 of CO.JP’s “Japan Addition” pack alongside “Metallic Silver” and all-black AJ1s.
Back 19 years after its inaugural release, the “Midnight Navy” retains its familiar color scheme while altering some original details. Uppers are built from white leather on the toeboxes, quarters, throats and collars, while navy nubuck appears on mudguards, eyestays, heels and collar flaps. Metallic silver rounds off the color palette by gracing the midfoot Swooshes and collar’s ball-and-wings badge.
This badge is one of the aforementioned pieces that’s been altered — on the OG pair it was simply printed in white, and didn’t feature three-dimensional detailing. The tongue branding is different as well: on this retro, there’s a Nike Air hit while the original presented a Jumpman graphic. Finally, the original pair was individually numbered on the inside of each tongue while this iteration opts for a simple Jumpman graphic and places “CO.JP” on the insoles. White midsoles and navy outsoles finalize the look.
The Air Jordan 1 CO.JP “Midnight Navy” will hit Nike SNKRS on November 14, and is priced at $170 USD.
