Paul George‘s signature Nike line offers some of the most popular basketball shoes on the market season after season, and now it’s entering a new chapter with the PG 4. A bold departure from the stylings of George’s recent models like the PG 3 and PG 2.5, the PG 4 offers a new shape and new tech.

Debuting in a simple “Black/White” colorway, the PG 4’s most noticeable design detail is its shrouded upper, complete with a zipper-equipped shell. This shell secures a duo of meshes: one tightly woven with a fused overlay for support on the lateral side, the other spacious and breezy for lightweight breathability on the medial side. When unzipped, this two-piece sheath reveals a neoprene base with a rubberized PG tongue badge and a traditional lacing system with bright red eyestays. Silver Swooshes have been returned to a standard spot on the midfoot, while a small PG logo appears at the bottom of the aforementioned zipper and a large iteration graces the insole. A leather heel equipped with George’s signature brings these divergent pieces together both literally and figuratively.

White foam midsoles offer a dotted pattern that adds texture and an ice blue plastic bar for contrast. This bar purports the shoe’s full-foot Zoom Air cushioning system — yet another deviation from George’s previous models, which only equipped forefoot Zoom. Medial details nod to Paul’s daughters Olivia and Natasha by listing their initials/birth dates, while the lateral side shows the forward’s PG13 nickname. A white outsole with a circular traction pattern, ice blue trim and a translucent window on the heel completes the look.

The Nike PG 4 is currently available to Nike members in Japan, and retails for a tax-included price of ¥14,300 JPY (approximately $132 USD). A release in China will occur on January 8, with a US release following on January 24.

George is currently enjoying a productive season his Los Angeles Clippers currently sitting 3rd in the Western Conference, and he recently made multiple appearances on the NBA‘s 100 Best Plays Of The Decade list as well.
