EARTHGANG and Dreamville's New "Swivel" Music Video Is a Black & White Horror Film
A standout cut from the GRAMMY-Nominated ‘Revenge of the Dreamers III’
EARTHGANG is currently headed to the 62nd GRAMMY Awards thanks to nominations for Best Rap Performance for “Down Bad” and Best Rap Album with the compilation Revenge of the Dreamers III. Now they’ve reunited with the extended Dreamville family, releasing the new music video for the dark and dismal “Swivel.”
The music video was directed by a four person team consisting of Micah Anthony, Chad Tennies, Mac Grant and Caleb Seales. The creative team focused on after dark violence as a Stranger Things-esque group of kids ride bikes around a suburban neighborhood. A hooded figure lurks around every corner, razor blade in hand and a penchant for blood (which happens to be the only color in the black and white visual.)
“N*gga, keep your head on a swivel/ Trouble lurkin’ ’round the corner/ Run up on you any minute, you’ll be gone/ I know n*ggas dead out of desperation/ RIP my n*gga Alan, damn, I wish you would’ve stayed at home/ Learned to make the best out of sh*tty situation/ No complaining, no more Xan, I leave the medicine alone,” WowGr8 aka Doctur Dot raps in a reflective refrain. Later he breaks down how trivial the music industry is when he’s dealing with friends passing away in real life.
“Hell, when I was young/ I ain’t had to pop no guns/ Nothing cracking in the slums, you couldn’t handle on your own/ Shit around my block where we used to knock/ Couple souls fly, wasn’t nothin’ like you guys, what y’all on,” Johnny Venus spits int he refrain preceding reflections on his mom working three jobs to provide for the family and the ramifications of Reaganomics.
