Kevin Gates Revisits 'I'm Him' for New, 1920s-Inspired "Fatal Attraction" Video
The Baton Rouge superstar continues his reign.
Back in September of last year, Kevin Gates released his latest full-length studio album, I’m Him. Made up of 17 tracks, the aforementioned LP served as the follow-up to 2016’s Islah album and came to us sans features or guests. Now, continuing to support I’m Him, the down-south superstar is back with a new visual for one of its standout selections, the Take A Daytrip-produced “Fatal Attraction.” Notably, today’s vignette for “Fatal Attraction” is billed as a “New Orleans film” from the minds of Kevin and Dreka Gates, and takes its inspirational cues from the 1920s.
“I was in a pretty cool mood, needed action / I pull up in something vroom vroom, push your back in / I was in a very dark place, I wasn’t happy / You came in my life and that balance got established,” Kevin Gates raps during the first “Fatal Attraction” verse. “Don’t play around with love, under the love spell / Don’t be touching me, I’m delicate, you need to be f*cked well / Your boyfriend a detective, hit from the back, say f*ck 12 / With your water, you just cover me and bae say, ‘Aw, yeah.’”
“Right now, I’m just taking everything that comes with it and I’m just living for the first time in my life. It’s like I’m an infant again. It’s like I’m re-learning how to do everything because I come from being a gangster, I come from being in a hard-baller, aggressive lane. Just being in nature, I learned a lot from nature because everything in nature coexists,” Kevin Gates shared with HotNewHipHop during a November 2019 cover-story, revealing some insight into his current state of mind. “I’m on coexistence. I used to establish dominance in every situation I would go in out of fear. Because I’ve been in environments where you had to be the eater, or you would be eaten. And now I’m re-learning how to live life from the perspective of coexistence and appreciating everything about everybody.”
