Balenciaga Launches New Leather-Free Sneaker
Introducing the Zen shoe.
Always ahead of the curve, Balenciaga has introduced another sleek sneaker for Spring/Summer 2020. Complementing the technical Tyrex shoe, Balenciaga’s latest footwear offering is dubbed the “Zen,” and doesn’t use any leather in its construction.
Taking cues from footwear utilized for martial arts, football and other athletic activities, the lightweight sneaker is a dramatic shift from Balenciaga’s chunky Track.2 and immensely influential Triple S. A close-fitting, sock-like shape is informed by clean lines, with quilted polyurethane uppers set atop a thin rubber outsole.
“BB” logos are stamped onto the heel and rubber tongue, with tonal topstitching reinforcing the two launch colorways: tonal black and white/black. Thin laces are wrapped behind the tongue to ensure a snug fit, while a foam insole granting the simple silhouette a cushioned fit.
Shop the Zen silhouette on Balenciaga’s website for $550 USD, with select stores receiving the new shoe on January 20.
Most recently, Balenciaga introduced charitable koala-branded gear to benefit the animal victims of the Australian wildfires.
