Balenciaga‘s Spring/Summer 2020 runway collection showcased playful graphics, dramatic silhouettes and —- catching the eyes of many —- a brand new sneaker silhouette. The Parisian label has now provided a closer look at the unisex Tyrex sneaker, combining elements of sportswear, classic office shoes and human anatomy to produce a tech-focused footwear option.
Boasting an asymmetrical caged upper, the Tyrex silhouette will release in four sleek colorways, including silver/black, neon yellow and black; a bold red/black colorway was also teased on the runway but isn’t available for a closer look. Featuring a blunt square toe (complete with “TYREX” branding) and an intricate layered upper, the sneaker’s design was inspired by the “natural web of muscles beneath the skin, combined with the musculature within high performing sneakers.” Shock-absorbing mid and outsoles, shaped like an infinity symbol, finish off the look with a subtle heel, adding some height to the shoe.
Balenciaga has created some of the most influential sneaker silhouettes of the decade, including the high-tech Track Sneakers and Triple-S, which continues to drop in various bold colorways. As 2020 approaches, the Tyrex sneaker looks to elevate the label’s footwear offerings further, taking elements of Balenciaga’s square-toed slippers and derbies into the sneaker realm.
The Balenciaga Tyrex sneaker will be available to purchase at Balenciaga stores worldwide and on balenciaga.com starting January 2020.
Most recently, Balenciaga issued the second edition of its charitable World Food Programme collaboration.
