Selena Gomez Releases Third Studio Album 'Rare' Featuring Kid Cudi and 6LACK
Selena delivers her first project in five years along with a new title track video.
It’s been nearly five years since Selena Gomez released her last album, Revival, and since then, she experienced heartbreak, a lupus-related kidney transplant, and admitted to breaking down emotionally. Her third studio album Rare tackles all of this and then some over 13 pop ballads that boast additional features from Kid Cudi on the project’s outro “A Sweeter Place” and 6LACK on “Crowded Room.”
Selena alludes to her past relationship with Justin Bieber throughout and called Rare her “diary from the past few years.” “People You Know” is an especially poignant response to her past love endeavors, as she sings “So many wasted nights with you/ I still could taste it. I hate it, wish I could take it back ’cause we use to be close/ But people can go/ From people you know to people you don’t/ And what hurts the most is people can go/ From people you know to people you don’t.”
Gomez enlists her favorite collaborators, Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter for help in the songwriting department and what results is Selena in her most clear and focused form championing self-love above all else. In related news, Kid Cudi is planning to release his Entergalactic album with a new Netflix series revolving around multiple 30-minute episodes.
