'Parasite' Makes SAG Awards History
Bong Joon-ho’s gem becomes the first foreign-language movie to win best ensemble.
Having made our Best Movies of 2019 list, along with multiple others, Bong Joon-ho‘s meticulously crafted gem Parasite made SAG Award history last night when it picked up the win for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The lauded South Korean black comedy parable about class becomes the first foreign-film to ever have done so.
Leading up to the history-making win, Parasite garnered multiple accolades and prizes including Cannes’ Prestigious Palme d’Or Award. For those who have not yet seen it, the film follows the poor and ingenious Kim family as their fates become intertwined with those of the much more affluent Parks. The twists and turns architected by Bong Joon-ho not only makes Parasite of the best films of the year, but also a movie sure to be talked about in the decades to come. Parasite is nominated for six Oscars including one for Best Picture.
Other big winners of the night included Joaquin Phoenix winning Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for Joker and Brad Pitt winning Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
The 26th annual SAG Awards took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Check out the full list of winners below.
