Off-White™ SS20 Brought a "Meteor Shower" to Paris Fashion Week

Even with Virgil Abloh’s absence, the sportswear styling was plenty dramatic.

Though Virgil Abloh wasn’t in attendance, Off-White™ still made a splash at Paris Fashion Week. Though the seat left for Naomi Campbell was conspicuously empty, a host of celebrities — including Tyga, Halsey, Zack Bia and Caroline Vreeland — turned up to watch the Italian brand’s Spring/Summer 2020 womenswear presentation.

Off-White™’s SS20 offering included a brand new chunky sneaker silhouette, in place of more collaborative Nike items, but the footwear was underplayed in favor of progressive sportswear and tweaked workwear. Trim silhouettes were informed by minimalist shirting, enormous crocheted scarves and body-hugging dresses. Meanwhile, transformed track suits were elevated by select cut-outs and slits into stylized evening wear.

Accessories included Off-White™’s new Meteor bag, informed by a variety of holes inspired by the impact made by the show’s namesake meteors. This Swiss cheese motif also informed several dresses, T-shirts, jeans, gloves and tall boots, lending immediate visual impact to otherwise understated pieces; even the ever-present Off-White™ logos were comparatively toned-down. Multi-color graphics — another spacey meteor motif — informed various shirt-dresses and coats, interrupting the single-tone staples with bold graphic flair, while sleek leather jackets, trousers and gloves lent understated sheen to monochrome outfits.

Meanwhile, Abloh’s label recently introduced a special washed menswear capsule for END.
