Tei Shi Announces New Album & Shares Blood Orange-Assisted "Even If It Hurts"
The indie-pop queen’s ‘La Linda’ arrives this November.
Indie-pop star Tei She has announced that her highly-anticipated sophomore LP, La Linda, will be releasing later this November by way of Downtown Records. To commemorate the announced, she has shared a brand new single entitled “Even If It Hurts” which features frequent collaborator and fellow alternative sound aficionado Blood Orange.
In a recent press statement, Tei She shares her thoughts surrounding the track and music video’s concept:
I made this song with two of my closest collaborators - Dev Hynes and Noah Breakfast. It came together in pieces between LA and New York but sprouted from the lyrics Dev and I kept on singing – ‘even if it hurts…I just don’t mind’. The concept is really the realization and acceptance that pain is a natural consequence of love. It’s a duet about the ways in which we make ourselves vulnerable to those we love, sometimes at a high cost. The video was directed by Cara Stricker and with an incredible and almost exclusively female creative crew. It features a multitude of amazing designers like Collina Strada, Vaquera, Christopher John Rogers, Mugler, [and] Maryam Nassir Zadeh.
The new track for the album follows previously released singles “A Kiss Goodbye” and “Red Light,” which sees the artist expanding her world of nostalgic-tinged soundscapes. Continuing in the same vein as these cuts, “Even If It Hurts” carries forth with Shi’s eclectic bricolage of sounds, whereby infusing her artistry to new heights of brooding art-pop. Lushly orchestrated synths and various side-chained melodies meld well alongside disco-esque basslines, with the production’s atmosphere filled with gleaming glitches and fill effects that carry Shi and Hynes’ seductive vocals forward.
You can watch the video for “Even If It Hurts” above. La Linda arrives on November 15.
