Masego Celebrates All the "Big Girls" in Soulful New Single
“Ladies, get your weight up.”
Masego has just released his new single, “Big Girls,” a soulful track that pays homage to all the curvy bodies of the world. Produced by Jay Kurzweil, the song features a bass-heavy beat as Masego tells other ladies that they need to get their “weight up.”
Additional vocals were provided by Ivana of Nigerian-American R&B group VanJess. Outside of remixes, this marks Masego’s first single since dropping his debut album, Lady Lady, last September. In a statement, the musician explained that a recent trip to Kenya is what inspired the record.
“I was in Nairobi, and there was a group of women that were the life on the party — I’m talkin’ Lizzo energy. I asked someone who they were, and they told me ‘that’s the Big Girls Crew,’” he said.
“So I made a song about this party I went to on the great continent and just painted a scene of this cool event, called it the Cake Club, Big Girls get in free,” he added. Listen to “Big Girls” in the video above or scroll below to stream it now.
In April, Masego linked with Dreamville artist Ari Lennox for her single “Up Late.” The duo’s official music video for the record followed behind it shortly after. Elsewhere, he and FKJ dropped their “Tadow” video in May.
