Dreamville's Ari Lennox Announces Debut Album & Drops New Single "Up Late"
The fast-rising songstress teams up with Masego.
Two months after reconnecting with her Dreamville label boss J. Cole for the music video in support of their collaborative single “Shea Butter Baby,” Ari Lennox is sharing her plans for her debut studio album. Also known as Shea Butter Baby, Ari Lennox’s anticipated first LP is made up of 12 new tracks and is scheduled to see release on May 7. To promote the project and introduce listeners to its sonic and creative direction, the fast-rising singer-songwriter is serving up its lead single, “Up Late” featuring Masego.
“I realized, you know, music is how I can give back to someone who wants to, who might be suicidal or who might just not be feeling good or needs some type of inspiration,” Ari Lennox explained to us in November of last year, revealing her artistic motivations. “That’s what I need to be doing while I’m here … Sometimes it seems like you’re not allowed to be human, and just be like yourself and tell people what’s really going on … People really don’t like that shit.”
