In October of 2018, RZA revealed plans for a new television series based on the rise of the Wu-Tang Clan. Known as Wu-Tang: An American Saga, the 10-episode Hulu program is based primarily on the narrative put forth in RZA’s Tao of Wu and The Wu-Tang Manual books, and takes place in “early ’90s New York at the height of the crack cocaine epidemic.” Co-written and executive produced by RZA, the project also features Method Man as an executive producer and Joey Bada$$ as one of its stars, with additional consulting duties handled by GZA, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa and the Estate of Ol’ Dirty Bastard. To formally introduce and promote the biopic series’ launch, Hulu is unveiling Wu-Tang: An American Saga‘s lead trailer. In the aforementioned vignette, RZA begins to lay the foundations for his storied career.

“If you want to make it in this world, then put in the work,” RZA is told in the newly-released teaser for Wu-Tang: An American Saga. “You listening to beats — you ain’t listening to the whispers out in the streets.”

“I’m delighted to be partnering with Hulu and Imagine to explore the vast story of the Wuniverse,” RZA shares via an official press statement. “Wu-Tang through our music has always strove to inspire as we entertain. This opportunity to continue the Wu-Saga in a 10-episode series will exponentially increase our inspirational style of entertainment. In the immortal words of ODB, ‘Wu-Tang is for the Children.’”

You can take a look at the lead trailer for Wu-Tang: An American Saga above, while the series is scheduled to debut on September 4 via Hulu.

Back in May, Wu-Tang Clan released the Of Mics and Men EP.
