Jacob & Co. and Lionel Messi Create Sapphire-Encrusted Timepiece for Charity

Luxury jewelry maker Jacob & Co. has partnered with the Only Watch charity for a one-of-a-kind timepiece, tapping brand collaborator and soccer star Lionel Messi for the special watch. Set in 18k white gold, the new edition utilizes Jacob & Co’s Epic x Chronograph “Messi” silhouette, while adding unique blue details to match the theme of the upcoming auction.

Premium details on the accessory include a 47mm grade 5 Titanium case, 36 baguette-cut blue sapphire gems and a blue mineral glass element to protect the column wheel chronograph system. For contrast, details such as the rubber crowns and “START,” “STOP,” and “RESET” engravings are featured in bright red, as well as the number “10” that lends a direct nod to Messi’s jersey number. More branding for the athlete is added via a “Messi” logo at the six o’clock position and his signature, which is inscribed onto the mineral crystal caseback.

For an even more personalized experience, the winning bidder of the watch will have the chance to meet the footballer in the flesh. “One of the reasons for the collaboration with Jacob & Co. was precisely to work on social projects,” explained Messi.

The Only Watch auction is set to take place on October 9, 2019 in Geneva, Switzerland, with all proceeds benefiting research for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
