Tyler, The Creator Joins Funk Flex for Interview and Freestyle
Along with a call to “Free Rocky.”
Fresh from his recent GOLF le FLEUR* and Lacoste collaboration, Tyler, the Creator stopped by Hot 97 to chat with DJ Funk Flex. Touching on topics ranging from Flex’s hobbies to Tyler’s biggest influences, the hour-long talk is capped by a rare freestyle from Tyler.
Flex kicks things off by explaining a past bias against Tyler and his Odd Future pals due to a statement Earl Sweatshirt made. “He said the [JAY-Z] album was overrated,” Flex explains. He does, however, admit that not only does he not remember which album was targeted, but “in [Earl's] defense, was it JAY’s best album? No.” Tyler is unfazed however, explaining that he’s “in his own world. … I only have two rap friends: Rocky and ScHoolboy Q.”
Later, the duo touch on surprising hobbies (For instance, Flex collects baseball cards) and reactions to Eminem albums — “He put out this album called Relapse that I like,” Tyler exclaims. “[It was] weird … but it was him. … He went a hundred percent with what he wanted to go with.” During his thoughtful freestyle, Tyler pokes fun at Flex and mentions his own clothing line, hinting that GOLF le FLEUR* took in $17 million USD in 2018.
