slowthai Gets Nostalgic in Documentary-Style Music Video for "Toaster"
Discussing his childhood for the ‘Nothing Great About Britain’ track.
slowthai has released a documentary-styled music video for his song “Toaster” from his autobiographical debut album Nothing Great About Britain.
While Nothing Great About Britain tackled the UK’s current political climate, Brexit, classism and poverty, the music video for “Toaster” strips it back and hears slowthai discuss what it was like to grow up in Northampton. It was the first time in almost 13 years that slowthai had visited his family home, and while walking around reminiscing on his youth, we see the rising rapper dip in and out of bars from “Toaster.”
The half narrative, half performance video provides an insight into the life that built slowthai, one that heavily influenced his album and sound. The documentary comes just hours after it was announced that slowthai has been shortlisted for the 2019 Mercury Prize award for his debut album.
Catch slowthai perform “Toaster” and discuss his younger years in the video above.
