Abel Tesfaye, better known as musician The Weeknd, is joining Adam Sandler in the upcoming flick Uncut Gems. Set in New York City’s Diamond District (between Fifth and Sixth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan), the crime thriller follows jeweler Howard Ratner (Sandler) and his unpredictable journey to the windfall of a lifetime — all while balancing business, family and edging out his rivals.
Marked as the multifaceted creative’s silver-screen debut, details surrounding The Weeknd’s character still remains under wraps. Tesfaye joins a star-studded cast composed of former NBA superstar Kevin Garnett, LaKeith Stanfield, Idina Menzel, Julia Fox and Noa Fisher. Uncut Gems is directed by brothers Benny and Josh Safdie (of Daddy Longlegs and Good Time fame) and is set to premiere at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival.
