Following the footsteps of the recent project with nonnative, New Balance keeps the Japan-based collaborations coming, now enlisting BEAMS PLUS for an earthy cream-colored iteration of the CM996 alongside a concise line up of bespoke apparel.
This particular model of the CM996 has been dressed in a sleek duo-toned color scheme, taking on neutral and black palettes to resemble the outward appearance of traditional saddle shoes. Sleek black leather is seen at the tongue, lace cage and sidewalls, while the rear quarter and forefoot are tinged in premium nubuck. All of this is underscored by a solid black rubber ENCAP midsole with light treading. As a finishing detail, exaggerated white eyelets have been added to the design, giving the sneaker a subtle sporty edge.
In addition to the sneaker, an assemblage of clean-cut garments are featured. One highlight is a blazer clad in dark grey corduroy. The piece comes in a classic three-pocket design, with two near the hem and one at the chest. A single vent is placed at the back, subtle details like “NB” embroidery under the lapel and co-branding along the inner seams top off the garment. Other pieces in the capsule include matching corduroy pants, a white oxford shirt and pocket tee.
The BEAMS PLUS x New Balance CM996 “Bespoke” is currently available at beams.co.jp for $158 USD, while the apparel range from $65 – $ 350 USD.
