Leading the chart for 16 weeks straight.
UPDATE (23 July 2019): “Old Town Road” has officially tied the record for most weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 as it enters its 16th week. Lil Nas X’s viral hit stands alongside classic tunes such as Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey’s “One Sweet Day” and Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber’s “Despacito.” If he manages to keep his momentum going for a 17th consecutive week, “Old Town Road” will be the sole holder of the longest-leading Hot 100 entry.

ORIGINAL STORY (2 July 2019): After spending 13 straight weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road” officially holds the title for the longest-reigning hip-hop song in history. The viral hit joins Boyz II Men’s “End of the Road” and Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine” at the 13-week mark, surpassing the songs “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth, “Boom Boom Pow” by The Black Eyed Peas and Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” that led the chart for 12 weeks.
Additionally, “Old Town Road” is only the 12th single in the chart’s six-decade record to run for at least 13 weeks. If Nas X and Cyrus keep the momentum going for another four weeks, the single will be the longest-leading Hot 100 entry in history.
In case you missed it, Lil Nas X’s debut EP 7 opened at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
