UPDATE: We’ve received official imagery and a release date for Nike’s Tinker Hatfield-inspired Air Max 1 “Sketch To Shelf,” courtesy of UNKNWN. The impactful sneaker recalls Hatfield’s original scribblings for the shoe that eventually became the Air Max 1, originally doodled back in 1987. Slight embellishments come by way of sparse color-blocking and thoughtful details like the “handwritten” typography, dotted lines and contrast stitching.
The Air Max 1 “Sketch to Shelf” hits stockists like UNKNWN on July 13 for $150 USD.
Taken from the celebrated shoe designer’s rendering of the silhouette, this iteration is crafted a white mesh base and an uneven red mudguard for that drawn-in look. Handwritten notes are spread throughout the shoe along with the printed warning “SKETCH, PROPERTY OF NIKE, NOT FOR RESALE” hidden on the inner lining. Branding elements can be found on the panel swoosh similarly colored in like the mudguard, along with an embroidered Nike Air emblem and Hatfield’s signature on the heel. The translucent sole revealing sketch lines add a finishing touch.
Take a look at the first images below and stay tuned for a release date and pricing details.
In case you missed it, the Air Max 1 is celebrating Fourth of July.
