Japanese labels NEEDLES and Suicoke kick off their debut partnership for Summer 2019, following a series of joint efforts between the footwear label and parent label NEPENTHES. NEEDLES’ release encompasses a duo of thong sandals, designed to recall historic Japanese setta footwear.
Unlike the much-taller geta sandals, often made of wood, setta sandals are a much thinner footwear style, traditionally made from tatami footbeds crafted from woven bamboo. Originally developed in the 14th century, NEEDLES’ update to the classic style retains the thick thong straps from the original design, realized in original fabric sourced from NEEDLES SS19. Crafted from smooth satin, the straps are extremely soft and sturdy, a worthy counterpart to the collaborative shoe’s new Vibram Wurstel outsole, which boasts a corrugated sole that can interlock for easy storage.
The collaborative Suicoke sandals hit NEPENTHES’ Japanese web store and select NEPENTHES retailers today.
