Following last summer’s high-contrast New Balance collaboration, Stray Rats rejoins with the American sneaker brand for another bespoke take on the classic 990v3. Repurposing the Joker-inspired color scheme from the original drop, the new edition, dubbed “ALTERNATE 2,” offers a lighter-toned base to soften the palette.

Repurposing arguably the most popular 990 colorway, a grey base informs the toecap, “N” logo, midsole and mesh panels throughout, with laces to match. The Joker inspiration comes by way of the unmissable green and purple suede atop the midfoot and heel, stretching across the back beneath embroidered “SR-86” branding. Accompanying the sneaker is an array of thematic wearables, including grey rat-printed socks, black shorts and white T-shirts emblazoned with “HA! HA! HA! HA!” graphics and illustrations of the 990v3 and the Joker alike.

The collaborative New Balance 990v3 sneakers drop on May 18 via Stray Rats’ website and Lower East Coast in Miami.

Most recently, the 990v3 outsole appeared on three Made In UK New Balance uppers.
